As many of ya know that the results is round the corner, i had decided to take a break from job. I quitted my job as of today. If you're wondering why, the main reason is that i want to take a short break before i resume any other jobs. I had been since working from the following after my Os, till now, the result release. It had been very hectic. I woke up at 0600hrs everyday, rushing to board the train before 0640hrs, if not the chances are that i would be late as the official timing is 0730hrs. If you don't know, i work at STK, 5 Portsdown Road. Train to Dover and bus there. Thinking that i need not travel such distances now, i felt absolutely relieved. Whee!
It had been a real hectic and lethargic-ness, i pulled myself out of the bed, when i don't even wake up that early during an O level paper. It is a common scene of 'sardine packed train'. Even at 0640hrs, the train arriving upon Woodlands is packed with people and just more people. As well as my journey home, it is even more crowded!
Till today, 09/01/2009, i made this decision to leave the company. It wasn't a rash decision, i had a hard time coming with this. To be honest, the pay isn't bad, the job isn't too arduous, the people are friendly and warm but i still decided to let it go. It's just sooner or later as i'm only a temporary staff.
Although i seemed to the be youngest in the entire Portsdown. My generation gap with the aunties and uncles ain't very much of a difference. I'm able to communicate with them and we all got along well. Everyday, i observed how those people work. They can communicate in all sorts of languages, from English to Chinese to Malay and even dialect. Woohoo. They're really good. One of them can speak chinese and hokkien even though his an Indian. Wow. Amusing
Being a student, i'm practically tasked to any jobs around. Sort of ja-pa-lang kind, from receiving, issuing, stock taking, consignment checking and even distributing of diesels. Trained to do most of the storekeeper's job though i'm posted as an Admin Assistance, exhausting but fun. Haha.
I enjoyed myself for the past 7 weeks. Initially, it was quite dreadful and me wasn't really looking forward to it and after i clinged with those people, i find that they are quite funny and interesting. Well, you can see many office politics and drama, just like watching TV shows.
Still remembered 7 weeks ago, i whined in the warehouse almost everyday. Complained about the toilet, the weather, the amount of dust and anything. Till now, i learnt many lifeskills, some which are essential for the future. Thus, i was really sort of liking the job as each day went by. I wanted to quit long ago, but then aunty always advise me to work longer, for more money. Which i agreed to and finally stayed for 7 weeks till today.
The canteen there is cheap and being a noodle freak, i eat it almost everyday. Haha! It's quite cheap at certain times and can be rather costly as well. But the portion is huge. Ahha!
Today, i bought 20 curry poks for all my fellow friends, as a small token of appreciation to everyone in the warehouse, including the QA people. They all took care of me very much, taught me anything and everything. Shared jokes, stories and cheap lobangs [sales etc]! Haha! They are simply great people.
Received many goodluck wishes today, for the upcoming results on Monday and for my future endeavour. I seriously appreciated from the bottom of my heart. Especially Aunty Serene and Sally, whom shared many life stories, tips and treats with me everyday during Lunch. Mr Seow, who always refrained from doing dangerous job and many more. Also, to Ignatius who had gotten me this job. [Well, the chances of them reading this is absolutely null, but still it's okay.]
I left today, with a very sad feeling, i thanked almost anything which i could, the flowers and fishes etc. They kept me entertained throughout my days there. Hard feeling and nostalgia when the people shook hand with me. I felt teary and touched. Separation will come, but i guess, as my first official job, it really brings me lota memories and experiences which will follow me throughout my life.
Once again, i thank everyone, who made my job at STK so easy and wonderful. The people who came down for diesel everyday and those warehouse frequents. I hope that there will be still a chance for me to visit ya all. =)
I will visit them, if i can and when i'm free.
Of course, the above are only the positive memories. Haha!
